Spirit, Comic Relief and UnLtd have come together to create Do it For Real – a partnership that helps young people aged 11-30 to become social entrepreneurs, creating and realising their own project business ideas that positively impact on people and communities.
In the build-up to Red Nose Day and Sport Relief, Comic Relief provides resource packs to youth groups, supporting young people to create ventures that raise money for good causes, while benefiting the local community. Some of these young people are then encouraged to further develop their ideas into long-term social entrepreneurship projects, by applying for an UnLtd award.
UnLtd offers three stages of award:
Test It (£500) - for those who wish to flesh out their own social action ideas
Do It (£2,500 or £5,000) - for those who have successfully delivered Test It projects and want to develop their idea into something that benefits the wider community
Build It (£15,000) - for those are who ready to scale up their project into a sustainable social venture
All awards come with a package of support and guidance, and the scheme is closely managed to ensure that disabled young people are reached, included and supported through the awards scheme.
The project will also develop a local peer-to-peer network of young social entrepreneurs, recruit past award winners as volunteers to talent scout new entrepreneurs, co-design a training programme with partners on supporting young social entrepreneurs, and pilot an experiential qualification in social entrepreneurship together with further and higher education partners.
